History

Section composed of over 2900 pieces constituting a collection of weapons with over 800 objects, cartography, representation of the Carlist wars plus objects testifying to local history. We should highlight the Weapon collection within this section.

Weapons

The San Telmo Museum weapons collection is characterised by its wide variety and its importance revolving around a large number of knives and the quality and rarity of some of its pieces. A trip around the approximately one thousand pieces that make up the collection gives a complete view of the history of weaponry since the 15th century practically to our own day.

The collection has wide representation of different weapon types: knives (easily the most numerous), defence weapons, firearms, pieces of artillery and historical weapons.

Due to its importance and own character, we should highlight the Broutin collection, bequeathed by Don Aquiles Broutin y Pasquier (1860-1918), fencing teacher and collector of antique weapons and, father Francisco Apalategui's collection. He was a priest linked to the Carlist cause who bequeathed a widely varying collection of pieces to the museum funds in 1931, related to the Carlist wars.
