The current bust reproduces in bronze the one carved in white stone erected in 1866, which, after being withdrawn, was transferred in 1900 to the port of Zumaia, the birthplace of the subject, by request of Cándido Cendoya y Zubia. Several inscriptions can be read on the work. On the base, “ZUBIA”. On the lower part of the construction, “IX- JANUARY - MDCCCLXVI”. On the bronze plaque: "¡MARI! / URIKALDUAK SALBATU NAYAZ EMAN ZENDUBEN BIZIYA / TA GAUR DAUKAZU, GOITALCHATUAZ OBIZ ITXASO AUNDIYA: / ¡LO EGIN ZAZU BAGA ZOÑUAZ .. O GIZON MAITAGARRIYA! / OURATURIKAN ZURE GLORYAZ DONOSTI TA KANTAURIYA. / A.A.".
