The monument was unveiled on 24th September 1916. The Orfeón took the initiative for the erection of a statue in tribute to the composer. They held a concert in the Victoria Eugenia Theatre, but the money raised was not enough and they had to ask the City Council for help to pay for transport from Barcelona and the official unveiling.
