The research carried out on finding the paintings in the San Telmo Museum church has allowed us not only to appreciate the paintings themselves but also put them into context in an environment which was the pantheon for the Idiáquez-Olazabal family, founders of the convent. In fact, we can state that the convent would not have existed if it were not for the commitment from its founders, whose main motivation was to provide their own burial place.
The author of the research, Pedro Echeverría, is a professor at the Department of Modern Art at the University of the Basque Country and a researcher with recognised prestige. Great expert in Renaissance and Baroque painting, he has been able to interpret and situate in a specific context the paintings found in the church of San Telmo, recognising value in them that is enhanced by the information provided by the research.
