This piece is part of one of the most significant series Esther Ferrer began to create in the late seventies, concerning prime numbers.

The artist attributes her interest in this topic to a dream that she herself was swimming in an endless sea of numbers, all of them blue. She realised that these numbers were in fact prime numbers, and started incorporating them in her creations. Since then, Ferrer has distributed these numbers in different geometrical compositions, connecting them with coloured threads or lines, so highlighting the numbers that are missing. The use of thread, as well as making it easier to correct mistakes in the creative process, has the visual intention of adding volume to the work.

Since the mid-60s, Esther Ferrer (Donostia / San Sebastián, 1937) has worked on experimental artistic practices, both individually and collectively (in the ZAJ group). In 1963, together with José Antonio Sistiaga, she set up the first Taller de Libre Expresión (Free Expression Workshop), and in the early 70s went to live and work creatively in Paris. Her artistic output is extensive (drawings, photographs and installations), but she is recognised above all for being a leading figure in performance art, a form of artistic expression in which the human body takes centre stage.
