Hondalea exhibition

Inside the restored lighthouse, the ground has been excavated to create space for a sculpture comprising layered geological forms cast in metal, over which water rushes and crashes. Looking down into Cristina Iglesias’s sculpture, the visitor is drawn into the abyss.

Hondalea creates a place to contemplate our relationship to deep time, our need for the wild and the vital importance of conservation of the oceans. The sculpture encourages us to lose ourselves, and find ourselves, in a reflective relationship with the natural and mineral world.

Through preparatory drawings, new works on copper plates, sculpture and a video evoking the journey from the city to the island, the exhibition introduces some of the central ideas and concerns in Cristina Iglesias’s new public sculpture.
