"Black is Beltza", exhibition project by Fermin Muguruza about the graphic novel of the same name, created together with the writer Harkaitz Cano and the illustrator Jorge Alderete, arrives at the San Telmo Laboratory completely renovated: with the contents used for the animated film that will be released in September. Its starting point is the presence of the Pamplona Giants at the New York World’s Fair in 1965.

Black is Beltza constructs an action and espionage story combining music, love and revolution by means of the  meeting between different film genres and audiovisual advances.

The motivation to carry out this project arose when the author found a newspaper image which seemed to contain a conflict which paradoxically seemed both strange and familiar to him: a picture taken in New York in 1965 showing the Pamplona giants troupe with a caption beneath the photo stating that, due to race riots,  the participation of black giants in the parade was forbidden.

Taking this historic fact as a starting point, Muguruza constructed the tale of Manex Unanue, the main character in our story. The narration tells of the events which  marked the convulsive society of the mid-sixties through the eyes of this young man.
