Monument financed by popular subscription promoted by the newspaper “El Pueblo Vasco” (Editor: Rafael Picavea Leguia). The monument project was carried out by León Barrenechea Torralba and the figure of the Queen is by José Díaz Bueno. The following inscription can be read at the front: “TO: HER MAJESTY QUEEN MARIA CHRISTINA OF AUSTRIA - LORENA”. On the rear of the monument is another inscription which reads: “THIS MONUMENT WAS FINANCED BY PUBLIC SUBSRIPTION INITIATED BY THE BASQUE PEOPLE” SEPTEMBER MCMXIX”.
