 Take me there

The Second San Sebastián International Sculpture Bienniale (1971) commemorated the centenary of Pío Baroja’s birth. This work was acquired after winning first prize, and the City Council earmarked a sum of money to carry this out. The piece was going to be installed in the Plaza del Generalísimo, but the jury was of the opinion that none of the scale models put forward were appropriate for said location. On 18th February, the Urban Services Commission studied the installation of this sculpture in Plaza de la Trinidad. However, the Commission named by the City Council to search for a location for the piece (Peña Ganchegui, Chillida and Amón) were of the opinion that this square, where the artist positioned the work to see the effect, was not appropriate. It was unveiled in its current location on 28th December 1972.
